The reflection in your eyes (is it what's behind mine?)

I look into your eyes
I see the pain inside
I want to burn it out,
And leave a clean slate behind.

Can you see it too?
Or is it a reflection,
Of what is in MY eyes?
Please help clear that up for me.

What do you see in mine?
Can you look behind the veil?
And uncover the secrets,
I keep hidden securely away.

I don't even know what is there,
I've pushed it so far away.
I want it out, far, far, out,
Buried under false feelings.

It's like a spring-cleaning
Like dusting off the shelves and shelves,
Of volumes of recorded thoughts.
I need to let you know what's inside.

You're helping clean
And clearing out my sadness.
But where can I let it go?
You're taking on that burden.

Now I look into your eyes
And know it's your pain I see
Magnified by what I've given you.
A pain is behind both our eyes.
