Come Fill me Again

by Tom Swart   Mar 21, 2006

The murmur of my brook is no longer speaking
Nor the leaves of my thoughts playing with its pools.
The dry river bank of my heart reveal the roots
Of my love as they wither and become bleached.

The smooth bottom of this heart is slowly
Becoming littered as the torrents of life are gone.
The thirst that was so many times quenched by your love
Now becomes unbearable pain upon my lips.

The stillness of this forest where I first
Found your youth is but a trap now.
And I but a prisoner as it wraps
It voids and blackness around me.

The faint echo of your name plays with
The boundaries of my soul.
It seems to be crying out to you
That you may come and fill me again.

But alas the end comes near
And I feel the breath of death upon my hand.
My fingers bathe themselves in your memory
And my eyes hold your vision in their tears

The end of life beckons to me and
It shakes my old roots free .
My shadow holds itself for a moment
And Then I am gone.
