Angel(sestina)

by PS   Mar 21, 2006

I call upon you my guardian angel
Come by the light of the moon
Or is your presence in my shadow.
Save me from the darkest fall
Alone in the deep dark night
With only the guide of faraway stars

The lurid luminescence provided by the stars
As I search for my non existent angel
Guides me from tree to tree in the forest of the night
Accompanied only by the lone moon
Then the spitting rain begins to fall
Pelting the spirit of my pale shadow

With such little light what is the strength of my shadow
No help is guaranteed from the twinkling stars
In such instable states they may fall
Leaving me without light as I search for my angel
Then my shadow can only be saved by the moon
In the never-ending consuming night

The rain dampens the night
The branches and thorns snatch at my shadow
Then the clouds cover the moon
Leaving me alone without even any light of the mocking stars
So I blunder in the dark for my angel
As I wait for my final fall

But a spirit in the forest saves my fall
The specter gleams in the lonely night.
I ask, "are you my angel?"
The clouds leave, creating my watchful shades
Again my path and now the phantom are lighted by the stars
"He is not your angel!" cries the moon

I now see my hero by the moon
The man who saved me from my fated fall
My lover holds me close under the stars
And in the ending night
He shows me that my heart is reflected in my shadow
And that is where resides my angel

So in the night by the stars
I will not fall for my heart is in my shadow
Even without the moon I can find my angel.
