What I Have Learnt...

I have learnt some times you think you know others
When you barely even know yourself
That no matter how much your intentions are good
That there is no changing any body else.

I have learnt that respect is earned not given
And can be taken away in the blink of an eye
Those words cant be retracted and time cant be rewound
And you're often left on your lonesome to cry.

I have learnt that people change as you do
Sometimes for reasons unbeknown
And that friendships end, as time can mend
When in life and mind you as an individual are out grown.

I have learnt familiarity can breed contempt
That all good things must come to an inevitable end
That your intentions are not always so well received
And your advice isn't always wanted to lend.

I have learnt that as people grow and change
So too do there relationships take a turn
You can do whatever you want to a person
But it's your words that eternally burn.

I have learnt that in haste mistakes are made
The heat of the moment can take control
But the guilt remains and cant be erased
As it blackens, and slowly eats up your soul.

I have learnt that you cant solve all your problems
The road is rough and rocky when travelled alone
But if you push people away eventually they'll leave
And you'll have to struggle through life on your own.

I have learnt these lessons of value
And wish to pass this knowledge onto all of you
In hope you dont make the same errors in life
That I have been forced to do.

I hope my words are not only read but also heard
And not taken lightly by each person who reads to here
But learn from my lessons; dont have to learn them yourself
Believe me you'll only be left with tears.

    Words of wisdom straight from the heart. I think this was an awesome poem...your talent shines through in each stanza. Not only are these true rods of wisdom but each lines is engraved with truth.
    Can't wait to read more of your poems as this was so wonderfully and beautifully expressed.

    TITTA!!...First and foremost I really want to smack you for telling me your poems have been crap! You kidding me?! Please tell me you were NOT referring to this one!
    Secondly,
    I have learnt that you cant solve all your problems

    Loved that stanza, I could really relate to that one not by just personal experiences but from things I've seen my family go through! Oh how I loved this poem Eirisa! The way you write is just, I still have yet to come up with a word for it! The way I look at life is I am actually thankful for lessons we learn because if we haven't made mistakes how will we know how to better ourselves? Lets just be thankful you've learned!
    And thirdly, anytime you write a poem like this it always leaves me in tears not just to know things you been through, not just because how well you write, but how sweet it is of you to warn other people that there has been someone who has been through all things imaginable and might have had it worse then you! I miss your poems soooo much Eirisa and I half fell off my chair seeing that little red number next to your name! My insides did a little scream and said "ahh!"
    Wonderful Job as always sis and even if you went a year without writing, you work would NEVER be crap (ya hear me so keep writing), and it could never be voted a 1 or 2 or 3 maybe if a hater erads, a 4, but from me its always 5! Your super awesome!
