My Love For The Game

by Mike   Apr 21, 2006

My life as a young athlete,
of only about sixteen.
I was becoming a man,
a man but was still a teen.
I was a strong, durable, fascinating, athlete,
that was hit in the knee.
All I remember when opening my eyes,
was the face of the referee.
He was blowing his whistle, screaming,
"Come! Come now he needs help!"
I tried to get up, but the pain
was something I never felt.
That was two years ago,
I've had to have two surgeries.
This will always be something,
in the heart of my memories.
All I hear now from people is,
"Man Mike, what a shame!"
"Two surgeries on your knee Mike,
you'll never play another game."
My heart a sings a "Battle Cry",
a cry for the game I love.
All I can do now is pray,
pray to the Lord above.
I ask Him to give me a chance,
to play just one more time.
Because if I don't, I'll go crazy,
and I'll lose my mind.
