An angel watching over me

I watched her little face as she knelt beside her bed
her palms pressed tight together, her little prayers she said
dear god up in heaven, with your angels standing by
there's just one thing I ask for, please promise that you'll try?
I really love my mummy and I love my daddy too.
And just to make them happy is all I ask from you
It's been some time for sure
since Daddy saw Mum smile
And daddy hasn't heard Mum laugh in the longest while

I stood silent by my little girl
with my hand just near her shoulder
and although my daughter is only five
I saw a soul much older
I heard her take a little breath
as she bowed her head once more
Her silky hair tied back with a bow, her slippers on the floor

Dear God, I hope it's not too much to ask for one more thing
perhaps maybe you could let my daddy hear mummy sing?
Daddy used to play piano and Mummy sang to me
She hasn't sung for ages now, not since I was three
So dear god up above, it's not alot you see.
Just let daddy see mum smile, and maybe sing to me?
I won't ask for anymore and I'll be good all year through
Or maybe you need something done? Is there anything I can do?

I saw my daughter look to the sky as though waiting for a sign
I saw the courage in her heart and was so proud she was mine

Well thank you god for listening, I hope I didn't take too much time
and if you can not do it, don't worry, it'll be fine
I watched her little face as she climbed upon her bed
my palms pressed close together as this little prayer I said.

Dear god up in heaven with your angels standing by

please watch over my little girl in everything she does
shelter her from hurt and pain, shower her with love
she hasn't seen me smile for ages now you see
and it's true I haven't sung to her since my little girl was three
please let her daddy see my smile to let him know I care
let my laugh echo the house even when I am not there

I watched over my little girl now dancing in her sleep
And next to her head of silky hair, a reminder for her to keep
a keepsake from her angel who is watching and will see
her baby girl grow up so much..
just to know her angel is me.
