Second Best

by Rican Chemistry   May 2, 2006

Second best is all I am
I know that he's her man
I know that he belongs to her
Believe me I understand

She gets to say he is mine
While I look from far away
Hoping he gets the chance
To somehow look my way

At night I wait till he's alone
To talk to him on the phone
And with our little escapades
This love I feel has slowly grown

But one truth that will never change
Is that I will always be second to her
While I only think of him
To him she is his only world

So why do I settle for second best
Why don't I just move on?
Well let me tell you its not easy
To act like nothings wrong

To say that I don't care
To pretend he's just a friend
And it kills me inside knowing
That one day this game will end

But my heart was very weak
It fell for those amazing eyes
And little by little
I started believing my own lies

"No you can handle this
You will be just fine
Its just to have some fun you know
We'll just do it this one time"

Now I am stuck on you
And there is nothing I can do
I cant stop feeling this way
I just cant stop loving you

So I settle for second best
I settle for the scraps
Maybe one day I'll be your one
Maybe,someday, perhaps

Beautiful.. i love ur rhyme scheme.. nice words.. i love how u developed this.. i especially love ur last stanza.. and ur title was reli eye-capturing.. just one suggestion, tho.. maybe ud like to add "someday" to ur last line as in:

    "maybe, someday, perhaps"

just for the flow.. ur poem, ur rules..
    its gr8
    keep going
    take care
