Our society

by audriona   May 6, 2006

Our society these days isn\'t worried about communism or terrorism,
We\'re only worried about materialism,
Like our DVD\'s, MP3\'s, Adidas, and Nikes.
Things we say we can\'t live without,
But I highly doubt,
that your CD\'s,
And your TV\'s,
Are running your life.
And I blame the media,
cutting through your mind like a long steak knife,
implanting messages telling you what you need.
But you don\'t need to know who\'s getting married,
or which celebrities styles are hot and which are not.
You need to be happy with what you got,
Instead of buying things that make you something you\'re not,
and never will be,
changing yourself into something unlike you,
and more like me.
You begin to hide in the shadows waiting for that one ray of light to set you free,
but it will never happen.
You just have to wait for the sun to wake you up the next day,
providing you with that temporary relief so you can say,
\"I am a being of my own creation,
And I can be whatever the hell I wanna be!\"
Just be happy you\'re not living in a third world country,
like Iran or Haiti fighting for the least bit of democracy.
With their children living day to day
With not even a roof over their heads,
And their children rummaging through the streets searching for the tiniest crumbs of bread.
So I really hope you heard everything I said,
Cause as far as I know,
Our Society\'s DEAD!
