The Hourglass

Slipping as I'm gripping ~ the sand sifts through my fingers ~ while the memory of a dream lingers ~ Gone like so much dust upon the floor ~ Sitting here I cant remember when we closed that door ~ only that one day my heart said "No More!" ... so drifting and dropping ~ the sifting isn't stopping ~ lingering and floating as it falls ~ we run back behind our walls ~` Trapped within the hourglass ~ caught by a heart made of glass ~ showered by sand ~ watching dreams slip through my hand ~ Somehow this doesn't seem to be the outcome we had planned ~ time is slipping while the sands keep sifting ~ yesterdays not soon enough and tomorrow way to late ~ So to the hourglass we've entrusted our fate ~ Surrounding swallowing and smothering ~ while above me loves death is hovering ~ Waiting to smother our tomorrows ~ while the sand falls and scours ~ buried and barely breathing ~ sometimes mad as hell and seething ~ I shower in the sand ~ As our pride prevents either of us from lifting a hand ~ and as all the sands run dry ~ a love that could have been will die ~ you can sit by and watch it pass ...

As Love drowns within the hourglass
