The Road Of Life?

by Lilly   Jun 3, 2006

It's a work in progress so please, be lenient!

"The Road Of Life"
I disagree,
For life's a river,
Can't you see?

Twisting us,
Here then there,
At times it's rough,
It's Everywhere.

We can't control where we go,
Or which turn we take,
Doesn't matter what we want,
Or what we aim to make.

We can never calmly chose,
What road to travel down,
That just ain't how this life works,
If tried, you'll likely drown.

We're swept along with destiny,
And slammed against the bank,
Drug along the rocky base,
We've no time to think.

True it's quite immovable,
So please don't struggle so!
Relax your muscles, little one,
Merge with fortunes flow.

Let go of all your tensions,
Close your knowing eyes,
Fall into yielding waters,
Forget all troubled cries.

But wait! don't get too comfortable,
For you never know,
Who could stab you in the back?
Your best fried? Or your foe?

Waters that you think are safe,
Could have more danger still,
Always keep a watchful eye,
Use every waking skill.

For sure as fire burns the heart,
Shadows hold your fears,
Trust is shattered in one word,
The trust that held for years.

The water that, to you, looks safe,
Holds rocks and jagged shells,
It waits for you to wade on in,
To teach you different hells.

It wants to lure you into its depths,
Your pretty smiling eyes,
Your perfect happy, charming heart,
It wants to hear your cries.

Don't trust It, please don't open your heart,
Keep it locked away,
Safe from waters wanting to drown,
Hide it every day.

For trust is only broken,
Smiles only fade,
Love is only killed,
And hearts can't be re-made.

But then again it sometimes heals,
Scars can be made smooth,
Love can fill the heart,
Sometimes it can sooth.

Sooth the drowning waters,
Caress the thriving mind,
Comfort all that beings know,
Be ever amazingly kind.

But who knows what will happen?
With every love that grows,
Kill it now I say to you,
For smothering seeds it sews.

Or maybe it's a different love,
The kind that flourishes so,
The kind that fills the mind with thoughts,
Of goodness that you owe.

It's your choice,
It's your demise,
It's your life,
So please...be wise.

I think this is a wonderful poem, i myself love the idea of life as the flow; as the river.
