More than a wish

by Chelsey   Jun 5, 2006

To: My sunshine :-)
Thank you so much for your kind and meaningful words...they have forever touched my heart!

“I hope this day is filled with joy and love”
As of right there I just wanted to give her a hug
“I hope this is a day you’ll never forget”
Almost by then my eyes were wet

“I can’t believe baby girl how much you have grown”
Just watching her tears, created some of my own
“Don’t ever lose your faith in God”
By the end of her video I wanted to applaud

Birthday wishes in video were sent to my screen
She wished me best of luck on my big fifteen
She told me how proud that I made her be
She told me of her endless love for me

I try to remember to thank God on a daily basis
For keeping the bond so strong between us
Some people would say screw it if their sister was gone
And even though it hurts sometimes, I hold on

I try to remember to thank God for bringing me her
A sister who brought light and much needed laughter
Some people couldn’t handle e-mails by the day
But it makes you cold hearted to give up on family that way

This birthday I sat wondering what it’d be like if she was here
I’d want to do nothing but just talk off her ears
I looked to the empty chair on the right
Pictured her sitting there eating dinner with us at night

I looked at the extra room and pictured her bed
Where late night talks would happen and poems would be read
I fell asleep talking to God asking why prices were so high
To get my sister here, but I heard no reply

For the last 2 years when I blew the candles out on my cake
I wished for her to come here without the headache
Each birthday I wish for her to be here for the next
For I can receive her gift in person instead of from Fed-Ex

But she is here to watch me smile and open up my gifts
She is here to watch me grow and give me those lifts
But even though she physically isn’t, I hold her in my heart
Its locked sealed and zipped, she can never depart…………

But still every birthday
When I blow out the candles
The real wish is
I wish for it to be
More than just a wish
