Breathing As She Lays Dead

by Su   Jun 14, 2006

When she looked at him,
She saw only weakness,
A man who's lived his time,
To be forgotten, save this rhyme.

His time was up,
She scowled in clear distaste,
Why did he succumb to death?
His existence was a waste.

She knew she'd never have this fate,
She was looking for her answer,
A way to stay past her final date,
No last breath, no last words -
She's defying nature.

Her dream was to continue,
To never cease to stay alive,
Her search led to a breakthrough,
She will no longer live and die.

Breathing as she lays dead,
Self inflicted coma of the mind,
Laid out on a woven spread,
Her expression almost kind.

She feels nothing now,
She fought human death,
And has made herself to be -
Someone more or less?

Breathing as she lays dead,
Achieving immortality,
People look with dread,
On this horrific tragedy.

She saw only weakness in him,
But what of her own?
She never thought to conquer fear,
She couldn't face unknown.

Breathing as she lays dead,
Was this really her fantasy?
Sick and twisted, yet cold and scared,
Afraid to wake up to reality.
