California (A Monchielle)

by Sean Allen   Jun 15, 2006

My California is
the land of the mountains
like a great giant's spine;
land of redwood forests,
a land that I call mine.

My California is
the unflinching desert
and the luscious valleys;
huge home to so many:
it brings me to my knees.

My California is
sparkling Southern beaches
to colder Northern bays;
the gleaming golden gate
to cities of steel-gray.

My California is
not trapped by this poem:
a place of so much more.
May the sun always set
on your vast Western shore.

    Interesting write. Love it. The image you painted was great and the flow and rhyme was good. Loved the last stanza, it stresses that California has so much more to explore. Good write. 5/5
