Rose Petals

by Matthew A.   Jun 20, 2006

Waves ripple upon river's surface
As her feet swayed within, trying to feel perfect
She picks rubies from a emerald stem
And watch as each one flows while she counts to ten

One for saying he loved me so much
Two for saying he'd be nothing without my touch
Three for saying he'd never let go
Four for saying he'd be the one to wait by the phone
Five for saying my kiss was fine
Six for saying he'd always be mine
Seven for saying his world is now complete
Eight for saying I took him off his feet
A painful nine comes into this nightmare plot
As ten becomes he loves me not

As she picked the petals of this rose
She wondered why it was her that he chose
