Little girl...

by Jenna Balkin   Jun 23, 2006

All to be heard,
is the creak of the bed,
and faint snores,
from the next room...

All to be seen is,
the dust particles floating past,
through the light of her lamp,
and through the gloom...

Little girl thinks about what she has done,
that could make her nights so sleepless...
Memories or future possibilities,
haunt her and make her helpless...

Little girl cannot cry because the echo will wake the demon in his sleep...
Little girl cannot move because the noise will move through the silence,
so deep...

Staring out the window,
preying for any sign of dawn,
and as the day brings light back,
she is herself and the sadness is gone...

So tired for lack of rest,
she thinks of what to do...
She knows she's got to stop thinking at night,
but not thinking, would be thinking too...
