Stereotyped

by Heather   Jul 2, 2006

I live my life as a stereotype.
Labels are place on me like I'm a product you can buy in any store.
I'm placed in a big group and lost in the crowd.

I'm stereotyped because I'm a brunette, I should be innocent.
I'm stereotyped because I can be quiet in school, I should be smart.
I'm stereotyped because I'm young, I shouldn't worry about love.
I'm stereotyped because I'm a teenager.
I live my life as a stereotype.

If stereotypes weren't used how would people survive?
Stereotypes are like a drug we use to form a barrier that keeps us from getting too close to someone.
If labels weren't used then how would local high schools function?

Stereotypes are a way of life.
Everyone uses them, even without knowing it.
If stereotyping was a crime, we'd all be in jail for 5-7 years.
If we could get beyond the stereotypes, then who would we really be?

I loved it! its so true, we are all labelled, for things we do, they way we dress or the way we talk, and it is so unfair but it happens. I love the poem and the meaning and idea behind it, keep it up

This was so very true!! I hate being labeled! I liked how you went into details about the stereotypes. The ending was my favorite part!

I think we can all relate to that one. Really great write, I loved the ending although I agree with Museum that the beginning could have been a little stronger.
