How Do You Find The Words?

by Truest Lies   Jul 8, 2006

How do you find the words,
To explain what you feel,
When everyone starts to leave,
But you yourself don't want to go.
How do you find the answers,
How do you ask them to stay?
How do you find reason,
And at the same time hold the tears at bay?

I hoped it wouldn't come to this,
But now the wind has blown it all to bits,
I hoped that I could stay firm,
And steal some time,
A moment to heal.
But now the words are fading,
Perhaps it was bad quality ink,
Where I wrote down my life,
Now I watch the pages sink.
I pushed them down into an ocean,
Of deep, troublesome pain,
Now I grasp the surface,
Relieved to find that I am still sane.

At the end I will be left alone,
And that will be okay.
I never knew a person close enough to catch my tears,
So it will be like every other day,
Like all the other years.

I am not a stranger to loneliness,
For most of the time I am alone,
But still I am frightened,
At the thought of losing everything.

I beg the tears to fall,
For their salt to fill the emptiness...
At least to pass the time,
Until the midnight chime.
I wonder when the time will come,
When everything is lost,
Will the clock be able to tell me,
Or will my heart instinctively know.

I wonder when the last one leaves,
Will I feel sad,
Or deceived.
I wonder when the door closes for the last time,
Will I then be able to break down,
And simply cry?

Like I stated in your other poem, "Misery's Door," I like your use of a door as a metaphor.

In this poem, there is a lot of emotion. I assume that when "the door closes for the last time" that means death. Like when it's your time to go, as you also mention a clock in the satnza before that.

Very good job. You definitely have a lot of talent! Good job!

You brought up a lot of good questions. Some of them can be answered, and some of them are more difficult to answer. This is one of those poems that get you thinking, reflecting. Awesome job on this one!..

For some reason, this almost made me cry. I really like it. Behind all these words is so much feelings and emotions. They just kind of jump out at you.

    Great job on this.

I'll be honest, when reading the first stanza, I wasn't so sure, but as soon as I reached the second stanza, I was hooked. That has a lot to do with the description used in the second stanza and onwards.

"I pushed them down into an ocean,
    Of deep, troublesome pain,"

A very good choice of words there, and some nice imagery throughout.

Maybe adding some descriptive vocabulary in the first stanza, but other than that, it's great. x
