Dance the final dance

by broken_dreams_broken _heart   Jul 13, 2006

As the drum plays its heavy beat
as the music pounds
the world begins to move again
to spin round and round
glittering costumes
once sparkly and new
seem so gaudy and tarnished -
a melancholy blue

you can taste the powder
the cotton candy haze
don't try to find the exit
from this swirling maze
shiny birds of paradise
show how the other half live
show what you can be
if you give all you can give

harlequin girls dance in time
all around you
whispering their secrets...
a dash to the ladies loo
reveals the scars
imperfections shown
its too late now
the birds have flown

they don't want you
a joke, a fake, a flaw
they just want you
outside of that door
banished from
that perfect dream
where nothing is
quite what it seems

cold hard pavement
drizzling rain
dampens and chills you
its happened again
but onward ever onward
to the next partay you go
hoping to impress them
hoping to steal the show

pick yourself up
straighten out the dress
take the pill and stand up tall
the hurt gets less and less
ready for another round
you walk to another door
where you'll be torn to pieces
on yet another dance floor

so why do we do it?
why keep numbing pain
that we could simply prevent
by just not trying again?
because one day
we might get a chance
to prove we are worth it
to dance our final dance
