Farewell from gate four

by lexie   Jul 18, 2006

So this is it,
this is what we've been dreading,
this is all its worked up to,
we sat and watched planes boarding,
and people arriving,
watching lovers unite,
children and their father,
mom and daughter,
we're just delaying time,
don't want you to leave,
don't want you to go,
but I'm afraid I'll start crying,
if you don't leave soon,
so please,
just go before the tears come,
hurry up,
you'll miss your flight,
quick now,
or you'll be late,
so with a hug or two,
you leave,
and i watch as you walk,
walk right through that door,
leaving for home,
this is my farewell,
farewell from gate four.

I really love this poem. I've felt almost this exact way before other than at our airports you can't go to the gates with the passengers, so it's like in the lobby that I always feel this huge "go away before I cry" goodbye scene.
