No Goddess

by Princess Midge   Jul 21, 2006

When Shakespeare said
"My mistress, when she walks, treads on the ground"
he was right.
No woman is a goddess
and if you think of me
as an angel
then my wings are black.
My halo slips
and I shout
with rage -
not with the voice of a harp.
I'm scared of heights,
so take me down
from this pedestal.
Let me fall
if I want to.
Let me cry
if I need to.
Be silent
if I have to.
You see in me
only light.
But there is darkness
deep inside.
A soul that spits
but also kisses.
No mother earth
no saint.
Just me.
Where you see beauty
I see beneath.
The selfish seed
that grows strong;
flourishes
in the dark.
And I want to be beautiful,
a goddess
floating above the earth.
But I am here
grounded.
Flawed.
All I can be.
