When Hope Died

by loretta Taylor   Jul 25, 2006

You gave me hope that day
A little silver lining in a life of dull gray
You made this ugly duckling feel like a swan
Now you're forever and irrevocably gone

You led me on fulfilling your needs
I was a puppet on a string following your lead
I cringe thinking of the things I would have done for you
Now I know I was utterly, totally and completely your fool

I let you control me ...you held all the cards
I look inside myself seeing my soul in shards
Now it's all over and you shattered my heart
Was mine one of many or just the start?

I had faced the cold cruel fact before we met
That true love was something I would never ever get
Still, there was a tiny glowing spark buried deep inside my soul
An ember of hope that died the day you let you me go.

Beautifully painful. Lovingly bitter. Happily sad. I could feel the words as I read them, spilling from my own mouth. Very well done. xx

    Loretta,

It hurts to read this. It's beautiful but I caught myself nodding and understanding. I felt like this... I don't know if this is a life's experience but you capture the pain, the lost hope. The emptiness. Thank you. I've added you to my favorites!
