Bed Of Roses

Bed Of Roses

In a dusty old bar on the outskirts of town,
my whiskey tainted thoughts are all of you.
You make me wonder about things like forever,
and about love that lasts your life through.

Rich amber liquid swirls slowly in my glass,
there in it's bottom I see your stormy eyes.
They make me recall how terribly I miss you,
and how much I love you in spite of my lies.

Your words struck me like a bolt of lightning,
and I just sauntered off without looking back.
I know you're the one I want to be with always ,
I just don't know how to get us back on track.

When we had our falling out that long past day,
I wasn't strong enough to stay there and fight.
All I wanted was to get as far away as I could,
and to keep your accusing glare out of my sight.

I'm sitting here wishing I'd never let you go ,
for this bed of nails I have so foolishly made.
I want to lie you upon a bed of roses once more,
as the last dim light of the day begins to fade.

I don't know if you can ever really forgive me,
but I do know that I must give it one more try.
True love may be blind but this time I won't be,
with arms wide open I will do this or I will die.

I want to be just as close as the Holy Ghost is,
with nothing there between us this time around.
I want you as close to me as a layer of my skin,
the love within our hearts making the only sound.

Tonight when you hear my voice calling for you,
please answer before a door permanently closes.
Just say that you'll take this tired soul back,
and let me make love to you on a bed of roses.
