Jaded Doll

Jaded Doll

Like a doll trapped inside a display case,
she stands alone in utter silence.
Longing to be held close just once more,
with love instead of violence.

Ensconced in her realm of darkness,
she is blind to the light.
She reaches out but she cannot find,
what was once in sight.

The volatile scent of pretentious lies,
overwhelms her delicate soul.
Deep down in her nomadic existence,
she finds only a gaping hole.

The whole forest was once in front of her,
now it's blackened by the trees.
She can still taste its thick sweet syrup,
smothered with stinging bees.

The frosty chill of summer is setting in,
and she must face it all alone.
The warmth of love has eluded her again,
leaving her chilled to the bone.

Porcelain white tears soaking her cheeks,
she accepted that it was the end.
She didn't realize until it was way too late,
that some wounds never mend.

The sound of past promises being broken,
still rings in her sensitive ears.
Being burnt by others has left her jaded,
and broken beyond her years.

Fiercely protecting her fiberglass heart,
she made one fatal mistake.
She forgot that some people are honest,
and some give instead of take.

Now all hope of love is gone from her life,
and the final curtain closes.
She chose to keep the thorns in her heart,
and throw away the roses.
