A Clever Lie

by Ellie   Mar 3, 2004

A clever lie to deceive
a hopeless heart to receive
an evil word spoken out loud
to her and to the crowd

never once did she stray
from the pain she felt that day
she held on to the knife
because she wished no more for life

hiding the scars that bound her
beneath clothes around her
hoping no one would see
the weakness that she had let free

the lies that were told
to make her feel like gold
never stopped the blood
that was an overflowing flood

as she tried to recognize
why she felt the hate inside
she could only do what she saw fit
to take a knife and cut at it
