Sonnet on Patriotism

by Electric Monkey   Aug 5, 2006

"My country tis of thee."
How sweet those words are to me!
Showing my love for this country;
I am so happy I can be free.
But freedom comes at a cost;
The men who fought whose lives were lost
Show me who loved this country the most.
But now their memory is all but lost.
Let us not forget the men who died,
And the men who for their country tried
To preserve its freedom and its pride;
And the women for whose husband they cried
When they learned that he had given all
And for her freedom had answered the call.
