Sonnet to the Soldier

He stands in battle proud and strong,
Singing the verses of his company's song,
When the strife rages all the day long.
And the question is asked, "what went wrong?"
He stands up and fires at the enemy again,
And shows who he is to all the other men.
And gives his strength and gains more to spend.
He carries a rifle, is alert and awake,
For he know his friends very lives are at stake.
And more than urgency and death does it take
From his station and post, his position to shake.
Let us pray for those who for this nation
Make so much stronger its freedom foundation.
