REVISION

by Brittany   Aug 8, 2006

It was the story of a girl,
rewritten a thousand times,
but this story was her life,
littered with petty crimes.

She wasn't a convict,
didn't do anything illegal,
but was all a front,
her posture so proud and regal.

She kept herself locked up,
a jail inside herself,
she hid from the world,
her existence on a shelf.

No one knew why,
they didn't bother to ask,
she was a complicated creature,
trying to hide her past.

Her friends weren't too worried,
after all she seemed so strong,
a caring, aggressive nature,
and they hadn't yet been wrong.

The story on her life,
changed day to day,
her parents moved a lot,
in one place they couldn't stay.

She knew it was her fault,
she kept quitting school,
but this was her last chance...
society was cruel.

If she quit again,
she'd be kicked out,
this girl turned cold,
she wasn't the kind to pout.

For a while it went well,
days quickly passed,
she made a lot of friends,
though she knew it wouldn't last.

If they ever found out the truth,
they'd turn her away,
it was a secret of her youth,
yet it still haunted her today.

She looked at those around her,
standing behind them all,
she knew they couldn't handle her life,
if they were her they'd fall.

She knew it was going to happen,
then one day it finally did,
a girl from school stopped by,
and found out she had a kid.

The girl thought her life was over,
as she led her daughter back inside,
now they'd all know the truth,
now her past had no place to hide.

The next day at school,
she was confronted by her friends,
they said that it was okay,
there was no need to pretend.

The following months were difficult,
because as people often do,
everyone talked about her,
and the rumors swiftly flew.

But the girl closed up that chapter,
and in her life turned a page,
she exposed herself to the world,
and with her strength took it's stage.

She put on a brave face,
took criticism in stride,
cruel words had no effect,
she'd finally found her pride.

The girl graduated high school,
a mother at eighteen,
ready to protect her three-year-old,
from a world cruel and mean.

She had rewritten her story,
it was no longer a sad tale,
she made it an adventure,
of a mother who wouldn't fail.

Now she didn't hide her child,
but led her by her side,
because the love of her life,
wasn't something she could hide.
