What I ask of a friend

by Deana   Aug 22, 2006

I ask myself one day
As I pondered about life
What do I ask of a friend
And do I have that right

I ask you to listen
To the things within my heart
Don`t reveal it to others
Its only you I trust with that part

I ask you not to judge me
But try to understand
Tell me when you think I`m wrong
But say it while you take my hand.

Don`t ever be too far away
Or for too long of a time
Don`t stay away

Sometimes when I need you
I need to be put first
Even when my problems
Don`t seem to be the worse

I need times to laugh with you
And joke about our faults
And talk about mistakes we`ve made
Because we`ve paid the cost.

Even if we don`t agree
And if we have a fight
Stick around and talk it out
Until we make it right

Most of all
Don`t ever leave
Because only then I`ll know
That our friendship means the same to you
Together, we`ll watch it grow.

Trust, understanding, just being there. Thats what friendships are all about. What a joy it is to have them and heartbreaking when they are gone.
