Now That I Have Lived

by Midnight Sun   Aug 22, 2006

I was so young
When you asked for my heart
You didn't want to leave my side
We were never to part.

You offered me your life
You told me yours was mine
I was supposed to accept
Everything was to fall in line.

But I found myself hesitant
My hand was drawing back
You reached out further
Promising love would never lack.

I trusted you fully
I held you in great respect
But something was missing
There was a void in this one aspect.

I had experienced little
And loved none
I was so immature
Work never before fun.

To the eye I was older
And I appeared to know much
But my knowledge of love
Amounted to less than a touch.

The "bloom of youth"
Must be passed
This would take too long
Your love would surely never last.

But much to my surprise
You stayed around
Waiting for me
And my maturity to be found.

By now years have passed
And my spirit has grown
Yes you had given me time
And my seeds have been sewn.

So now I can focus on you
And the love that you give
And work on our life together,
Now that I have lived.
