If I Was You

by Twisted Heart   Aug 31, 2006

If I could choose what I could be
I think I'd like to be the key
That opens up your tiny heart
And watch it as it falls apart.

Or maybe I'd just be your friend
Who'd laugh at jokes and pretend
Then I'd aim them back at you
Like you did me when we were through.

Or maybe I would like to follow
The path you've taken, though it's hollow
Then maybe I could find a way
To accept the awful games you played.

You lied, you cheated, without a care
While I sat off, away somewhere
And as my life fell in dismay
You laughed at me and walked away.

If only I was you right now
I'm sure I'd forget me somehow
But wishing doesn't work, you see
So I'm just stuck here being me.
