The One

by Electric Monkey   Sep 6, 2006

I gave You my heart when I was younger,
And You made me feel so much stronger.
I called You mine; You called me yours
But neither knew really what was in store.

I called You one day so full of disgrace;
I could not bring myself to meet your face.
You broke it off; But I had left You.
But all was not known, we were not through.

I saw You less and less it seemed
(Many times of You have I dreamed).
I regretted my mistake I could not tell
How much You believed me. It was not well.

I thought You beautiful like no other;
I loved You more than my own little brother.
We met again at camp one year;
You revealed your mistake, and again we grew near.

But time passed and we grew apart;
Three years it was, cold was my heart.
I saw You again at church in the hall.
You spoke out; my name You did call.

I turned and saw the friend I had lost,
But the one about which I care the most.
I was so surprised; I almost fell.
I almost felt sick but did not feel well.

We talk more often most by email,
But You still come down every once in a while.
It's so exciting, every email or letter.
I love each one; they get better and better.

We've made our mistakes; we've had our problems,
But every time we will overcome them.
It's hard sometimes with such things to cope,
But with someone who cares we can have hope.

I cannot express my love for You.
After all the things I've put you through,
It seems meaningless to say those words;
They take their wings and escape as birds.

But that is the truth, no matter how void
The words seem to sound when it's just like noise.
I love You so much that you could never know.
When I see You again, maybe You'll know.

To Alicia,
My True Love

    Beautiful emotions and expression of them. This piece flows very nicely, and rhyme doesn't seem at all forced.... A truely wonderful read.
