Reflections on 9/11

by Electric Monkey   Sep 12, 2006

It was a regular morning, a normal day
When the first plane hit and turned the sky gray.
"It's an accident; it was flying too low,"
Our mouths seemed to say, but we did not know.

A few moment later, another jet flew
Into the second the flames and smoke grew.
By now we knew we were under attack
After the sky appeared to turn black.

Men and women ran down the stairs,
While police and firemen suppressed their fears
To rescue those trapped above the crash;
Their lives before their eyes did flash

The buildings started to collapse and fall,
Leaving rubble ash and the bodies of all
Who were still trapped and couldn't get free
From the smoke and heat; this just couldn't be.

We thought we were safe within these walls
Of missiles and bullets the best of them all.
But in a moment our freedom was threatened,
And then the risk for attack was heightened

It has been five years; we must not forget
What happened that day when we all did connect,
And unite to retaliate against those who try
To hinder our freedom; they can only try.

Let us remember the men and women
Who died that day; do not forget them,
The ones in the building, the ones outside,
Working to get in; others to rescue thy tried.

We have all but captured that gang of thieves
Who stole the lives of loved ones. We grieved
So long and loud for those we had lost
(one of the beams was left shaped in a cross).

We pulled together to stand strong and firm
Never to run from cowards who burn
Our flag and killed our people who have fought
Against the enemy in the heated onslaught.

Remember every soul which was lost,
For that will show who loved freedom the most.
Remember that day with great remorse
When time took its toll when it ran its course

They can never come back but are never forgotten,
Though their bones and bodies have all but rotten.
Their memorial will be built with their names in stone;
We will remember and forget not a one.
