Happy Birthday, (R.I.P Gran)

Happy Birthday to you dear, though there is no cake
We don't have the party hats, presents to take
In fact there are no guests, there's no music here
We have nothing of you, just memories and tears

Another year older, it would have been today
But you never reached it, for you passed away
There won't be a celebration, we won't joke around
All we have is silence, broken by nothing but sound

It seems the champagnes gone, the sandwiches stale
The chocolates uneaten, the faces are pale
Your husbands alone now, and your children apart
Was this meant to happen? How do we start?

The grandchildren, haven't seen each other for years
What connects them now? except you and their fears
The door of the bedrooms remain close all day
Last year it was brilliant, now there's nothing to say

Sleep, pretty lady, you're free from that pain
As the garden twists, the wind howls your name
Let the rain kiss you, upon your withered soul
You're at peace now, dear person, but we've lost our whole

Happy Birthday Gran, wish you were here to celebrate it

    I can really relate to this. My nan passed away two months ago, not even that yet and with Mothers day coming up tomorrow, things are hard

    Oh my dear Katie,

    This poem touched me to the deepest of my heart . My gram passed away a little over a year ago and geez it is so hard to go to family functions and stuff and her just......not being there .

    Such a heart-touching piece Katie, My heart is drenched in tears .
