The night before

by Nil   Sep 24, 2006

Painted on the skin
an image of a smile
perfection in itself
who'd think it's lying

Mascara coated lashes
Gloss covered lips
eyelids are shaded
no details she's missed

a beautiful dress
just the right shoe
a million dollar smile
who knew?

that the night before

She got in a fight
in a corner she cowered
then in the morning
that she spent two hours

washing the blood out
from her hair
covering the bruises
with so much care
washing the tears
right as they fell
knowing that if she did
no one could tell
applying layers of make-up
blending all the colors
believing her pain,
these things could cover

Going to her ball
Having a great time
if only they knew
she lied..
