Be yourself

by Nathan Hickling   Sep 29, 2006

Life is both wonderful and terrible.
We walk through life unaware of
the suffering around us
and complain about how unhappy our lives are.
Those that live simple are those that live happy.
Without the pressures of society Pushing this way and that,
they are free to do what they feel.
I live under the pressure of society,
but I do not let it mould me,
I am myself.
Now and forever I am me.
People around me pressure me to become,
more like them.
I refuse.
I am myself.
Those that are nearby pressure me
To become more like them.
I refuse.
I am myself.
Society pressures me to conform,
But to conform is to be a number.
Not to be human.
Not to be you.
Never let society dictate who you are,
giving in to this pressure
makes you lose what makes you you.
By fighting this pressure we can be ourselves,
Not following the leaders of oppression,
But following our own path.
Where we want to go.
Who we want to be.
