The Flame

by Hannah   Oct 1, 2006

The hot flames rise above in the cold winter nights
Where everything was frozen but tonight
There was one light that kept everything going.
The color orange, red, yellow, and a hint of blue that shows the hottest part.
The crackles and pops of the flames echo in your ears.
The brightness makes your eyes open wide.
The smell of burning wood,
The feel of the warmth on your hands taking the coldness away.

The night where it was freezing cold, and you couldn't feel a muscle.
They way you acted as you ran up to the flame and needed the warmth to stay alive.
You danced around with glee that the night of cold was almost over.
You started to hallucinate and think the flame is getting bigger and you start to yelp.
You were just giving into the flame.

Now as I look into your eyes I still see the burning fire arise in your deep blue eyes.
You look back in mine and know that I will never tell a lie.
You are better now then you were that cold night.
You are better with everyone you see,
You are happier with every warmth feeling you feel.
The time now is gone and you and I are still friends with the warmth with a flame that is burning deep down in our hearts.

Now I wonder why it was that cold night and why everything was too cold to see.
I wonder why we didn't care to get the light back.
I think of how big the fire was that night and how it all was when we started to let it fly.
It expanded into the trees and glistened its stories with warmth.
I wonder why that night was the happiest day of my life.

Well, honestly I had to read this one a second time to make sure that my assumptions of metaphorical meaning were correct, or atleast made sense. I really liked it though. It was pretty to see the flames like that (I really like flames actually... maybe not such a good thing). It was warm too, like I could imagine the fire warming me up, and I could see someone dancing around it. Then you brought in the deeper kind of warmth, the warmth that only someone else can give you... I really enjoyed that. Thankyou:)
