Love to Live

by Chad P   Oct 5, 2006

I sat there broken and alone
My weary heart had grown numb
Fraught with open wounds
Living on involuntary functions
Then with unmatched grace you came
An unfamiliar twinge echoed in me
Every nerve fired off in concert
As if readying me for a new life
It started so innocent and so real
Stealing glances here or there
Getting lost in your eyes time and again
Innocent glances grew to playful touch
Playful touch to longing caress
You taught me to live and let the past go
To let my senses take it all in
Like a child’s first breath I gasped
Half still afraid of feeling again
In time we let each other in
We opened our arms and exposed our souls
In that moment I handed you my heart
And for the first time noticed the stars
Stars that twinkled even in mind alone
And smells and senses and sights
At twenty something my life began
Every kiss became sweeter
And every touch more intense
Intimate moments more passionate
And each breath more perfect
In you I learned how to love
In love I learned how to live.
