You loved your freedom more than your own son

by charlotte alfrey   Oct 9, 2006

How can you not want to see his face?
You made him
How can you not want to know the very person he is?
After all you made him
How could you not want to feel his embrace?
After you made him?
Who can you sleep at night?
You've never been here to hold him close
You made him you know
How could you walk away from him?
After you made him?
You never saw him being born
But you made him
He's innocent
He's perfect
And you made him
He wants so much out of life
You made that in him too
Ever since you left him
It drives the very person you made
After all you made him
As he lies here next to me he's a beautiful man
That you made now a man of almost twenty-two
Whom you've never even seen
A baby boy at birth
A child of a boy that had no dad
A teenager of bitterness and anger
Now he's almost twenty-two
I his girlfriend of just eighteen
Loves your son
As I watch him sleep
He looks just like you
You know you made him, you know
He looks nothing like his mother
I wonder if you know that?
How much you should be proud of this man
That you've made but never met
All I can say is...
Thank you for making this person
That lies here next to me tonight
Cause he's perfect
Although I know he's eyes have seen a harder world than mine
I'm going to try and make him see all that I see
Its a shame you haven't seen this man that I see
I guess you're the only fool
Cause you can't see this man that lays here next to me
As I watch him sleep
I cannot help but think you're a fool never taking the time to see
That baby, that child of just a boy, that teen of anger
Now a man of almost twenty-two
Its clear you don't deserve to know this man
That you made
