It came

It came upon u without warning
it threatened ur existence.
the urgency of treatment overbearing
straight to hospital u went
more than once u have been there

u became a shadow
a shadow of my mother
unable to do the things u love

all for one and one for all
we all sacrificed for u
he gave up his job
and i gave up all my time to keep things running while u weren't there
my grades suffered because i love u so much and because like u i worry

u remained positive.
i worried in secret
we all worked hard for u
and u scared us many a time

but today at last comes something good
the cancer that has disfigured u
is in remission
but the chance is there that it will come back.
no more if buts or maybes
we take the here and now
thankful ur still here and alive

without u we would fall apart
no matter how much i would sacrifice i give it all up for u

thankful for all the support from our friends and family whom we love
without whom we couldn't have made it through

it came without warning but it did not take another victim to death and for that we are thankful
