To A Child

by Cathy   Oct 13, 2006

I wrote this poem because I see how my daughter is saddened by mine and her dads seperation, and it just bothers me to see her that way. Please comment on this poem and let me know what you think.

She woke up one morning asking for you, I didn't know what to say or even what to do
How do you tell a child the reason there father is not there? how do you tell a child that he no longer cares?
To a child her parents are the best thing they have, there mother or father should never be the one to make them sad
I looked at her and told her daddy wont be here for a while, she looked at me frowning and faded her smile
She went to her room and brought out a picture of us all, and asked me mommy why doesn't he call?
I told her baby I really don't know, she looked at me and asked why did he have to go?
I didn't say anything a tear rolled down my cheek, I felt so numb that I couldn't even speak

*cryin* Larry the guy that left me wasnt my sons dad, but he was the guy that tried to be his dad and it hurts when my son says, "mommy wheres larry" or "my larry commin back" i compleatly know what you mean. it hurts so much and you dont know what to say to a child that isnt old enough to understand. hope all works out with you
