Twelve White Carnations

by .K.i.T.t.Y.   Oct 15, 2006

On a bright, moonlit night,
So innocent and serene.
I'm awoken by the sounds of rocks,
Beating against my window.

I rise from my deep slumber,
And lazily walk to the window.
Staring obliviously out into the lonely night,
Until out of the corner of my eyes,
A shadow moves.
I quickly jerk my head,
Towards the dark, cold ground,
Spotting him.
He's motioning me to open my window,
While holding a dozen white carnations.

Opening my window,
I shout out his name,
Asking him why he came.
He told me that he missed me,
And those nights we used to share by the shore.

I quickly searched through my closet for a jacket and a pair of shoes,
And headed out the window.

We ran to out own little place,
Just right around the corner, And up the sand dunes.

When we got there,
I took in the salty air,
And memories once shared here.

He reaches out towards my hand,
Holding mine in his,
Walking slowly over to the breaking waves.

We stood for what seemed like a lifetime.
Turning towards each other,
Gazing deeply into each other's eyes.
A warm feeling returning,
Leaving me lost in his.

He leans in close,
I close my eyes.
Holding him in my arms.
Feeling so good and so right.
Wishing to never leave this paradise.
Then,
Suddenly the earth shakes.
Cracking and floating away,
Pulling us apart.

He shouts mine name,
And I shout back,
Reaching for his grasp.
The sensation of pain shatters my heart.
Tears streaming down my face,
Gasping for air.

Suddenly it struck me,
And I woke,
All alone,
And crying.
Staring out the window,
Feeling the breeze drying up my tears.

Laying on my windowsill,
Were twelve white carnations,
Glistening beautifully in the night air.
