Cowboy

by Rich   Oct 16, 2006

With the last long drag on his cigarette
He adjusts his hat with no way to keep from getting wet

His horse shuffles under the weight of his master's pack
The cowboy adjusts his weight to ease his stiffening back

Days and months traveling alone
The wilderness and stars are his home

Another life from years gone by
Pain now barely noticed in his down turned eye

A woman a hope that came to a halt
A life gone wrong though nobody's fault

A pain ignored a life to give
Just existing each day but afraid to live

Pretending he's fine and still alive
Barely existing with a soul that already died
