My Superhero

What do you do when
your superhero turns old and gray?
Stand by him
What do you do when you discover
your superhero is only human?
Stand by him
But how do you say goodbye
to your superhero?
as you did when you found out
he was only human
with tears in your eyes
Bye Bye Daddy is whispered
as he is lowered into the earth
where we all come from
and must return someday

I wrote this poem when my father past away July 3 2004

    It was beautiful. I'm very sorry for your loss. I like how you can put something so tragic into a poem, and then make it beautiful.

    The only thing I'd say is, don't say 'you', as 'u', like you did here: "as you did when u found out."

    Anyhow, good job.
