As it rained

by Ashley   Oct 22, 2006

I remember the night you said you loved me,

We were 16 years old,

We had our whole lives ahead of us,

It was raining,

And we were sitting on the roof.

You had your guitar,

I had your jacket.

It was cold,

But the rain pelting on my face,

Felt good after another hot summer day.

We were both musicians.

You were the lead singer of your band.

I played piano.

According to all our friends,

Our voice talent was amazing,

We were a great team.

Our dream was to get a record contract,

Together,

And make music that would mean something to the world.

But that one night changed everything.

As we sat there in the rain,

All that could be heard,

Was the strumming of your guitar.

Then suddenly,

You stopped.

All of your feeling came flooding out.

You explained everything to me.

Then silence.

I love you Maria was what you said to me.

But unfortunately,

I didnt feel the same.

I told you that my heart lay with someone else.

I saw the hurt form in your eyes,

As your tears mixed with the rain,

As it was dripping down your face.

I didnt mean to hurt you,

But if I were to have lead you on,

It would have hurt much worse.

You slowly got to your feet,

And after that night,

I never heard from you again.

A few weeks later,

AT the start of term,

The principal made an announcement.

She told us of your death,

And we held a moment of silence for you.

I left school early that day,

To visit your grave,

I sat there and cried,

Because I knew why you had died.

It was my fault,

Or so I believed,

That made you leave everyone behind.

I will never know the truth,

Although there is one thing you should know,

I fulfilled our dream,

The one we much love,

And I hope one day,

You can forgive me for what I have done,

Because even to this day

To which I am now 33,

I still remember the night,

Where I failed to catch you,

Even as both you,

And the rain fell
