All Because I Can

by Lyndsay Kalyta   Nov 2, 2006

I'm not trying to confuse anyone
With the way my heart is feeling
I'm only thinking things through because I can
And I can't let my heart make another mistake
Because giving my whole life up was hard
It was terrible, like a thousand needles in my spine
And now, because I can, I am listening
To myself for once, instead of the world
I'm doing what I think is right
I'm popping the bubble that surrounds me
And now, I am crying because I can
Not because I want to, even though it feels good
My eyes are burning because they can
I finally allowed the tears to drop after so long
My heart is still breaking because it can
That means it's still alive, and willing to love
I'm hurting because I can
Not because I want to
Because if I could, I'd step back in time
Fix everything
And capture all that used to be mine
Because I can, I am allowing myself
To attempt to move forward
Into unknown waters,
In a direction I might not want to go
But because I can, I will
Because I can, I will pray not to get lost
On my way to a destiny I am not sure of yet
Because I can,
I will hold on to the memories
Of the past that made me happy
Because I can, I will smile because it happened
Because I can, I'll look in the eyes
And not cry, All because I can
I will pray because I can
And because I know it will help
I will laugh and smile, cry and hurt
All because I can
