Bad For The Good

by TaKe Me As I Am   Nov 6, 2006

We must experience pain to enjoy pleasure
we must walk through the rain to appreciate the warmth of the suns rays
sometimes it even takes losing someone to truly understand the value of life
..but why?

Why must it take hurt and pain to appreciate all we have
why is happiness something we have to earn by experiencing depression
often we are down so long that we forget how good it feels to be happy
..but how?

How do we allow ourselves to forget such a good feeling?
do we simply become immune to feeling anything other than depression?
subconsciously, we alter our lives to accept feeling down, and as a result base our lives around that
what is it that makes us fear being happy?
when did fear consume our lives?
..we must learn to believe!

Believe that there is love after every heartbreak
that there is a rainbow following every storm
we must believe that for every bit of pain we feel, we will eventually feel ten times more happiness
we must believe in the present, and not hold on to the past or live in the future
..but most importantly, however, we must believe in ourselves*

This reminds me of a quote i had on the front of the journal once, which i try to remember:
"the soul would have to rainbows, if the eyes had no tears." you did a nice job of conveying that which we should all remind ourselves. nice job :)

First of all thank you for the comment you left me. Thank you for writing this poem even though you didn't write it for me it reminds me of how I wish I could look at my own life sometimes. Life isn't always so bad after all.
