Just One More Drunk

by CondescendingHeart   Nov 7, 2006

Memorial Laced Sidewalks,
Embracing Dying Flowers,
The Memory Of One More Child,
Another One Of Ours.

We Lost One More Today,
In The Wee Hours Of The Night,
One More Young Child,
Who Gave In Without A Fight.

Around The Corner,
Just One More Mile,
For One More Drink,
We'll Add A Rose To The Pile.

To Weak To Hold Your Eyes Open,
But Strong Enough To Drive,
Just One More Drunk,
Hoping To Survive.

Please Forgive Them God,
Can't You See Their Weak,
They Can't Hold There Tongues,
So don't Ask Them To Speak,

We'll Continue Crying For The Lost,
Hoping It Will Save The Rest,
But Tears Can't Save Our Loved Ones,
As We've Lost Some Of The Best.

So We'll Make Just One More Pile,
Waiting For This To Stop,
So We Can Save The Lives,
As The Flowers Begin To Drop.

I entered the contest you put this in too! This was a great poem with the most original take on this subject I've seen. By far one of your best, though all I've read that you've written is excellent. You have amazing work, and I can't wait to see where you'll be with it just a few months down the line!
    Great job, keep writing!
