So Quick to Change

by Minkus   Nov 22, 2006

Author's Note: One really must read this poem out loud, and do so a few times, to catch its rhythm--please do so if you wish to enjoy this piece.

The wind rushes in swirling spirals
as I sit here on this slope;
It rises higher, ever higher,
as if it was my growing hope.
Void surrounds and death abounds
but it continues on,
Giddy with glee and completely carefree--
No attention it pays to the coming dawn.
And yet it can change so incredibly quickly
with a sudden reversal of mood;
a solemn moment of deliberate listening
reveals the coming typhoon:
The wind plummets down with nary a sound;
it's energy's totally spent...
But soon once again: an occurrence, and then
the wind resumes its ascent.
