They say we look down 'cuz we know we are inferior, and we not supposed to look superiority in the eye
But da truth is...
we look down 'cuz the neighborhoods we live in, keep us down
we don't wanna step on glass, b/c we can't afford the shoes to protect our feet,
we can't afford the doctor to take care of removing the glass
-we have no insurance to cover the cost of curing infection
-No $ for a bandage to help the scars heal
we look down cuz, where we come from, u getz killed fo' lookin somebody wrong in the eye
u getz shot up, fo' simply crossin the wrong person's path
or bein in the wrong place at da wrong time
we keep our head up, in spirit
inside, we bubble w/ pride and confidence and try to keep up self-assurance
but in public, we keep our heads down because we wanna live to see the next day
we look down, because we wanna see our children grow up to be somebody.
we see up, we see optimistically and as high up as anybody else,
but in da mean time,
i dont kno about you,
but imma keep my head down till i get outta here.
