Be Her Daddy

by Lyndsay Kalyta   Dec 4, 2006

In a sleepy state again
From another restless night
Kept awake from nightmares
Because everything's not right
You were supposed to love me
You should've held my hand
I was going to live happily ever after
With you as my man
We made a promise, but you broke it
Then walked out of my life
You made me fall in love with you
Then vanished from my sight
You were supposed to hold me
In the times when I would cry
But instead, I'm sitting here, shaking
Trying to figure out your reason why
The day I told you about her
You were honored to be her dad
But the day she came into the world
You acted almost mad
You promised that you'd love her
For everything she's worth
You promised she'd be your princess
But you've only made her hurt
She sits in my bed at night
And tells me it's okay
Because she prays every night to Jesus
That she'll meet her daddy someday
She wonders why you are out there
And not here with her and me
I tell her you had to be somewhere
But that's a lie that she believes
I can't tell her you walked away
Because it would only bring tears to her eyes
It's my fault that you left us
I should be the only one who cries
I'm hoping that you'll realize someday
That she's your little girl
You're going to wake up one day
And realize you're missing a part of your world
She's as precious as an angel is
And the two of us, we'll be okay
But that doesn't mean that I'll quit hoping
That you'll be her daddy someday
